Introduction to Medical Education
The Department of Education and Training at the Affiliated Hospital of Southwest Medical University is primarily responsible for the hospital’s postgraduate medical education programs. The department has consistently upheld the strategic vision of "scientific management and talent-driven institutional strength," guided by the principles of "teaching tailored to individual needs and emphasizing practical effectiveness." It maintains rigorous teaching management practices and ensures high standards in teaching quality.
The Education and Training Department also manages the application process for national, provincial, and院-level continuing education programs at our institute. In 2022, the department successfully organized and submitted applications for 47 national and provincial continuing medical education projects (including 19 national-level projects and 36 provincial-level projects), as well as 5院-level continuing medical education initiatives. Additionally, the department is responsible for internal training activities, conducting and evaluating院-wide "Three Fundamentals and Three Strictness" training sessions, and overseeing the development and maintenance of professional-technical and continuing education records for all院 staff.
After graduation, in terms of medical education, our hospital is among the first batch of nationally recognized standardized residency training bases. Currently, we host 27 residency training sites, with over 1,500 resident trainees enrolled in our structured programs. Additionally, we have 1 national-level specialized physician training base—specifically for Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine—and are currently training 7 physicians in this specialty. We also operate 14 provincial-level specialized physician training centers, currently nurturing 33 trainees. Furthermore, our hospital has been awarded the first batch of provincial-level qualifications for standardized nurse training, with 310 nurses currently in training. Meanwhile, our technician and pharmacist training programs are also actively recruiting, currently accommodating 99 trainees.

To strengthen the development of our hospital’s postgraduate medical education system, standardize clinical teaching management, enhance training quality, and ensure the smooth implementation of standardized training programs at all levels and for all specialties, our hospital has formulated and refined relevant regulations and rules for postgraduate medical education. These measures provide a clear framework and documented guidelines for educational and training activities, enabling us to progressively move toward greater standardization and scientific rigor in our training initiatives.
