The department boasts a highly qualified, well-educated, and top-tier nursing team with extensive clinical practice experience, as well as robust expertise in research and teaching.

The orthopedic nursing team was the first in China to recruit graduate students in orthopedic nursing back in 2003, followed by the initiation of wound care graduate programs in 2010. In 2019, the team began jointly enrolling doctoral students in nursing. Meanwhile, the team has also taken on the primary responsibility for theoretical instruction and clinical training at China’s first international wound care therapist training school, as well as at Sichuan Province’s specialized wound nurse training base. Through these efforts, the team has accumulated extensive experience in cultivating advanced and specialized nursing talent, achieving remarkable results along the way. Over the years, the West China Orthopedic Nursing Team has remained committed to a spirit of innovation and proactive advancement. They have pioneered a series of research initiatives nationwide in areas such as perioperative care in orthopedics and comprehensive wound management. Additionally, the team has actively fostered interdisciplinary collaboration between medicine and engineering, leading to groundbreaking scientific achievements in publications, research project applications, book authorship, and patent development. Beyond its research accomplishments, the team has also assumed prominent leadership roles within various academic organizations, including the Chinese Nursing Association, the Chinese Medical Association, the Sichuan Provincial Nursing Association, the Sichuan Provincial Medical Association, and the Chengdu Nursing Association—highlighting the team’s significant academic influence across the country.

In recent years, with the support and collaboration of the West China Orthopedic Medical Team, the Orthopedic Nursing Team has adopted an evidence-based approach, integrating the concept of Enhanced Recovery After Surgery. Utilizing project management strategies, they have innovatively implemented a series of optimized interventions in perioperative care—including pain management, thrombosis prevention, nutritional support, sleep and psychological care, skin and wound management, catheter management, and rehabilitation training. In 2019, they took the lead nationwide by launching a specialized training program for orthopedic perioperative nursing specialists, cultivating advanced clinical practitioners in the field of orthopedic nursing. This initiative aims to elevate the overall quality of perioperative care management, ultimately advancing precision medicine and precision nursing while ensuring patient safety across the entire treatment cycle and at every stage of care.
